Election of the Standing Commission of the Red Cross and Red Crescent

On 29 October, the Electoral Committee of the Standing Commission approved 12 candidates to stand for election to the Standing Commission and opened the process for elections to take place. The Commission emphasized that when electing the five members, delegates were urged to consider personal qualities, fair geographical distribution, and equitable gender balance, ensuring the inclusion of at least two women and two men among the candidates.

Following the vote, five new members were elected: 

  • Ms Mercedes Babé – Spanish Red Cross
  • Mr George Kettaneh – Lebanese Red Cross
  • Mr Wang Ping – Red Cross Society of China
  • Ms Helen Durham – Australian Red Cross
  • Mr Sven Mollekleiv – Norwegian Red Cross
