Mesures prises:
Irish Red Cross has carried out some activities aimed at raising awareness of the humanitarian effects of nuclear weapons. This features throughout IHL awareness-raising activities across the reporting period with various stakeholders, including:
- A public campaign in August 2020 commemorating 75 years since Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This included online messaging across all Irish Red Cross social media platforms and its website.
- Irish Red Cross also co-signed a joint Op-Ed with ICRC and other National Societies, which was published on the Journal.ie: Opinion: We’ve waited long enough – we must wipe out nuclear weapons for good (thejournal.ie)
- Irish Red Cross engaged in advocacy with key stakeholders to ensure the signing of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW).
- Irish Red Cross engages internally within the RCRC Movement in meetings with this thematic focus, particularly the Nuclear Weapons Movement Reference Group.
