Theme The German Red Cross and the Government of Germany pledge to strengthen national implementation of international humanitarian law as part of their overall efforts to strengthen a culture of compliance with international humanitarian law (IHL). Within the overarching title of IC34 “Navigate Uncertainty – Strengthen Humanity” this pledge is related to the proposed resolution “Building a universal culture of compliance with international humanitarian law".

A) Objectifs de l’engagement

Objectives to be achieved in the period 2024-2028:

(1) An updated report on « National Implementation of International Humanitarian Law » will be prepared by the German National IHL Committee. This report will include a section on German contributions to international implementation of international humanitarian law.

(2) Start a process to revise and update the manual of the Federal Ministry of Defence on Humanitarian Law in Armed Conflicts.

(3) Start a process to revise and update the publication « Documents on International Humanitarian Law » which also aims at making it available in digital form.
