Report on pledge – Humanitarian Effects of Nuclear Weapons

Liechtenstein has been active in a number of forums and ways to support the implementa-tion of the pledge’s objectives.

The topic of humanitarian effects of nuclear weapons was raised by Liechtenstein in relevant statements, including in the United Nations General Assembly’s First Committee.

Furthermore, Liechtenstein supported relevant resolutions in the United Nations General Assembly’s First Committee through cosponsorship, including the resolution on the Humani-tarian Consequences of Nuclear Weapons.

Liechtenstein has signed the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) in 2017 and participated in the first two Meetings of States Parties of the TPNW in 2022 and 2023.

Liechtenstein participated in the 2022 Vienna Conference on the Humanitarian Impact of Nuclear Weapons. The aim of the conference was to expand and strengthen global discus-sions on nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation.

Additionally, Liechtenstein condemned the threat of the use of nuclear weapons during the dialogue with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights on the situation in Ukraine at the 52nd session of the UN Human Rights Council and supported a joint statement concerning “Right to Life without Nuclear Threat” during the 54th session of the UN Human Rights Council.
