Ratification of the Arms Trade Treaty

Mesures prises:

Brazil signed the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) on June 3, 2013. On July 10, 2014, the Ministries of External Relations, Defense and Justice jointly submitted the Explanatory Statement 148/2014 to the Presidency of the Republic to initiate internal approval procedures. On February 16, 2018, Congress enacted Legislative Decree 8/2018, which approved the text of the ATT. On August 14, 2018, Brazil handed over the instrument of ratification to the United Nations, thus completing the formalities to become a State Party to the Convention. On November 14, 2018, Brazil became the 97th State Party to the ATT, in compliance with the Treaty international obligations.
