Pledge Report – Implementation of Convention on Cluster Munitions

Mesures prises:

The Convention on Cluster Munitions was signed by Uruguay on 3 December 2008 and ratified on 24 September 2009.

Uruguay has no cluster munitions in its arsenal and has had a ban in place since 2006 on the use of weapons and munitions of this kind. The ban was imposed by Act 18,527, which provides that it is a war crime to use weapons, projectiles and material and methods of warfare which are of a nature to cause superfluous injury or unnecessary suffering or which are inherently indiscriminate in violation of IHL.
