Standing Commission members: 2019 election

Election of the Standing Commission members

The elections to the Standing Commission took place during a plenary session of the International Conference on 11 December 2019. Four members were elected in the first round of voting, and the second round elected the fifth member. The five members, elected for a four-year term until the next International Conference in 2023, are:

– Ms Mercedes Babé, Spanish Red Cross
– Mr George Weber, the Canadian Red Cross Society
– Mr Abbas Gullet, Kenya Red Cross Society
– Mr Hilal Al-Sayer, Kuwait Red Crescent Society
– Ms Fine Tu’itupou Arnold, Cook Islands Red Cross Society

The first Standing Commission meeting was held immediately after the election, which was chaired by Ms Natia Loladze, Chair of the 33rd International Conference. The nine Standing Commission members – 5 elected members, 2 ex-officio members from respectively the ICRC and the IFRC – decided together that Mercedes Babé would be chair, and George Weber vice-chair.
