Because of the worldwide outbreak of COVID-19, pandemic and epidemic preparedness became extremely relevant. It set things in motion, which were in line with this resolution and to respond to this crisis. In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, the Netherlands Red Cross facilitated and contributed to a coordinated approach to the pandemic. The NLRC supported affected communities by the implementation of various projects, such as a (telephone) helpdesk for people who needed emotional or practical support (when they had COVID-19). Practical support varied from picking up groceries, which Red Cross volunteers would do, to sharing information about COVID-19 through the helpdesk. The NLRC also supported in awareness campaigns and sharing information regarding COVID-19, where specific attention was given to people in vulnerable positions.

At the National level

Explanation:

In our auxiliary role, the NLRC supported public authorities. In the first place through NLRC led and staffed test and vaccine locations. The Netherlands Red Cross also supported local authorities with the transport and support of (vulnerable) people who had COVID-19, for example to and from the hospital. The NLRC also supported health care institutions and staff with volunteers.

Because of the COVID-19 outbreak, the Netherlands Red Cross implemented various projects to support those affected and those in a vulnerable position who needed support. The NLRC assisted public authorities and continue to support public authorities as well as those affected with our aid. This impacted our strategy and focus for the coming years.
