Anti-Personnel Mines and Cluster Munitions

A) Objectives of the pledge:

Austria and the Austrian Red Cross pledge to continue to promote the ratification of and the accession to the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention and the Convention on Cluster Munitions by states which have not yet done so. We further pledge to uphold our commitment to safeguard the humanitarian standards set by these conventions. Austria and the Austrian Red Cross remain gravely concerned about the humanitarian consequences related to the use of anti-personnel mines and cluster munitions and will continue to render assistance to mine and cluster munitions action.

B) Action plan:

Austria and the Austrian Red Cross will use all opportunities for promoting adherence of states, which are not yet parties to the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention and the Convention on Cluster Munitions, and will raise awareness about the humanitarian standards set by these conventions. Austria will also continue to render assistance to reach the goal of a world free of anti-personnel mines and cluster munitions.

C) Indicators for measuring progress:

Progress will be measured by the number of ratifications of and accessions by states, which are not yet parties, to the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention and the Convention on Cluster Munitions and by the success in freeing the world from anti-personnel mines and cluster munitions.

D) Resource implications:

The personnel and financial resources required will be provided by Austria.
