Updated report on pledge – Ratification of international humanitarian law (IHL) instruments – Slovenia

Actions taken:

On 1 December 2022, Slovenia ratified amendments to Article 8 of the Rome Statute, which did not require the amendments of the Criminal Code (Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia, No. 50/12 – UPB, 6/16 – popr., 54/15, 38/16, 27/17, 23/20, 91/20, 95/21, 186/21, 105/22 – ZZNŠPP in 16/23) as Article 102 para. 2 subpara. 27, which has already been included in the new Criminal Code in 2012 (Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia, No. 50/12), incriminates the intentional use of starvation of civilians as a method of warfare by depriving them of objects indispensable to their survival, including intentionally impeding relief supplies as provided for under the Geneva Conventions. Slovenia deposited its instrument of ratification on 1 December 2022.
