Report on pledge – Supporting the use of digital technologies in surveillance and early warning to reduce natural disaster risks

Actions taken:

The Department of Disaster Mitigation and Prevention has been enhancing data sharing and early warning cooperation to provide an effective and accurate monitoring of disaster risks.

At the same time, mobile applications have been created to provide up-to-date and precise disaster alerts, including the Department of Disaster Mitigation and Prevention’s Thai Disaster Alert and the Thai Red Cross Society’s “Phon-Phai” which allows everyone to report public disaster, coordinates emergency response. It also facilitates village health volunteers and migrant health volunteers to register the location of vulnerable individuals that requires special assistance in case of disaster or other emergencies.

The Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA) launched a “FaiPa” application to alert wild fire and hotspots at the subdistrict and provincial levels using satellite data. The application has been used by general public as well as disaster workers in the mitigation efforts.

International cooperation has also been sought at bilateral and ASEAN levels in addressing the challenges arising from transboundary haze and PM 2.5.
