Report on pledge – NIB Feasibility

Actions taken:

Danish Red Cross (DRC)/Denmark established a common Task Force identifying the process and steps necessary for the establishment of a NIB. To inform this work, best practices were identified from other European Red Cross National Societies including the RFL-network and the ICRC/CTA and a NIB workshop bringing together practitioners and experts in Denmark was held, hosted by the DRC on 31 October and 1 November 2019, with participation from ICRC/CTA, the Norwegian, Swedish, Finnish, and German Red Cross, as well as the Danish Defence Command. The signatories issued a joint report that aims to outline feasibility and modalities of how a NIB could be established and organized, potentially in the National Department of the DRC, and providing recommendations on the approach in June 2020 and an updated version in December 2020. The report, among other things, identified potential ways of collaboration between authorities in charge and the DRC, but also identified potential legal challenges in relation to exchange of information between national authorities and the DRC. The signatories remain committed to addressing these issues going forward.
