2019

1. February 11th 2019: The Austrian RC publishes a press release, calling for a prohibition of all nuclear weapons, on the occasion of the start of the Global Campaign against Nuclear Weapons (ARC Comms. Department).

2. July 12th 2019: Presentation on the humanitarian Consequences of Nuclear Weapons at the annual International Friendship Camp of the Austrian Youth RC in Langenlois (Bernhard Schneider, Head of Legal Dept.)

3. August 6th 2019: ARC participation in the annual Hiroshima commemoration event in the city center of Vienna; official address by Dr. Anja Oberkofler, ARC Vice President; public decontamination exercise by the CBRN team of the Vienna RC (Anja Oberkofler, ARC Vice President; Peter Kaiser, ARC Deputy, Secretary General; members of the CBRN team of the Vienna RC)

4. August 2019: ARC Legal Department provides substantial financial support to a project, which aims at scientifically underpinning and rekindling the humanitarian narrative on nuclear weapons by drafting and publishing a book on the issue and by organizing a series of workshops around important questions such as nuclear deterrence and the validity of its most important claims (Bernhard Schneider, Head of Legal Dept.)

5. October 28th 2019: Encouraging the Austrian Government to continue its diplomatic efforts to promote ratification of the TPNW among other states during an official meeting of ARC President and Secretary General with Austrian Minister for Foreign Affairs Alexander Schallenberg (Gerald Schoepfer, ARC President; Michael Opriesnig, ARC SG).

6. December 2019: Austrian RC co-sponsors a side event on Nuclear Weapons during the 33rd International RCRC Conference, which was organized by the government of Mexico.

7. December 2019: Austrian RC, together with the Austrian government, promoted an open pledge during the 33rd International RCRC Conference with the aim to raise awareness about the catastrophic humanitarian consequences of any use of nuclear weapons (Bernhard Schneider, Head of Legal Dept.).

2020

8. February 19th 2020: Presentation on the Effects of Nuclear Weapons at the Vienna Centre for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation during an intensive course for graduate and post-graduate students from several European countries (Bernhard Schneider, Head of Legal Dept.).

9. August 2020: Austrian RC co-sponsors and co-signs a Movement-wide OpEd drafted by ICRC and French RC which is published by numerous well-known newspapers in several countries (Gerald Schöpfer, ARC President; Bernhard Schneider, Head of Legal Dept.)

10. 11. August 6th 2020: The Austrian daily newspaper ‘Der Standard’ publishes a commentary of Gerald Schöpfer, ARC President, on the humanitarian consequences of NW and on 75 years Hiroshima (Gerald Schöpfer, ARC President; ARC Media department)

12. October 26th 2020: Austrian RC Press Release on the occasion of the 50th ratification of the TPNW (Gerald Schöpfer, ARC President; ARC Media department, Bernhard Schneider, Head of Legal Dept.)

2021

13. January 19th 2021: The President of the Austrian RC together with the Austrian Minister for Foreign and European Affairs gave an interview to the largest Austrian daily newspaper about the humanitarian aspects of nuclear weapons on the occasion of the entry into force of the TPNW. 15. February 22nd 2022: Pledge of support to ICAN Austria concerning several planned events on the occasion of the first meeting of states parties to the TPNW in Vienna in 2022; the Austrian RC will support ICAN Austria with one of its staff members who is also an ICAN volunteer, it will support ICAN events with Covid prevention measures and it will further financially support the ICAN events (specifically the catering) with € 5,000,– (Austrian RC managing board, Bernhard Schneider, Head of Legal Dept.)
