    Between 2019–2023, the Australian Government implemented the National Disaster Risk Reduction Framework (NDRRF) to strengthen disaster risk reduction (DRR) across Australia. NDRRF implementation is guided by national action plans, the first of which was endorsed in May 2020. The Second National Action Plan was endorsed by Australian emergency management ministers in August 2023.

    During 2019–2023, the Australian Government has also continually updated the Australian Government Crisis Management Framework (AGCMF), the all-hazards framework for preparing, responding to and recovering from disasters and crises in Australia. Additionally, in December 2020 it reviewed and updated the Australian Government Disaster Response Plan (COMDISPLAN).

    Coordination and preparation have resulted in positive impacts on affected communities. A direct impact example is the Australian Government’s deployment of its National Emergency Management Stockpile in response to a large tropical storm in January 2024 (cyclone).
