Dissemination of International Humanitarian Law

A) Objectives of the pledge:

In view of the responsibility of the Government of Denmark to ensure respect for as well as to disseminate international humanitarian law the Government of Denmark hereby pledges:

    • To continue the process of drafting and publishing a Danish Military Manual. The manual is foreseen by the end of the first half of 2016. The manual will contain provisions for the compliance of international humanitarian law and other relevant international law, in particular human rights law, during planning and execution of military operations within the framework of Denmark’s military engagements. The manual will provide overall provisions regarding the extent to which human rights law will apply for Danish forces’ participation in international operations.

 

    • To further strengthen the dissemination of international humanitarian law by issuing the Danish Military Manual in a version translated into English.

 

    • To further strengthen the education and training of the Danish Armed Forces in international humanitarian law through dissemination of the Danish Military Manual.

 

    • To disseminate the Danish Military Manual to the allies and partners of Denmark.

 

    • To present the Danish Military Manual in relevant Nordic and international fora.

 

B) Action plan:

Proposed Evaluation Criteria:

    • The publication of a Danish military manual in both a Danish and English language version.

 

    • Presentation of the Danish Military Manual at Nordic and international level.

 

    • Engagement with allies and partners of Denmark.
