Youth Engagement for a Better World

Actions taken:

Domestic activities

  • SRC centre of competence for youth engagement promotes youth engagement and empowerment within SRC. It specifically supports SRC member organisations (cantonal branches and rescue organisations) in their efforts regarding the integration of youth in their structures (governance), in the conception of youth programs and the training of youth groups. The number of youth groups and young people committed for the SRC is increasing every year.
  • SRC Young Leaders Forum: SRC centre of competence organises the Young Leaders Forum for all elected youth representatives within SRC member organisations aiming at an exchange of knowledge, best practice and support for young leaders in their role as youth representatives. The Young Leaders Forums aims at representing the voice of the young people among the SRC. Since 2018, the Young Leaders Forum meets the Governing board of the SRC once a year, to discuss the situation of the youth. It is also consulted in the preparatory works of the Strategy 2030 of the SRC.
  • Since 2011 a youth delegate is an integral part of the SRC delegation at the RCRC Statutory Meetings

International cooperation

  • In Eastern Europe, together with the Host National Societies, SRC implements and supports projects for elderly care. The projects often engage young volunteers and include components of inter-generational exchange and support.
  • In Africa, SRC in cooperation with the Host National Societies implements several projects for children and youth in refugee camps.
  • In Central and South America, SRC together with the Host National Societies and partners, implements projects for young people on “sexual and reproductive health” as well as social inclusion projects for youth in big cities (San Salvador & Choluteca), incl. psycho-social and health support, training and education.
