Pledge: Day of Remembrance

Actions taken:

The Canadian Red Cross held a gathering at our National Office on Monday, December 17th, 2018 to commemorate the annual Day of Remembrance.  As part of this ceremony we showcased the stories of those within the Movement who have lost their lives during service, including Canadian delegate Nancy Malloy who was killed in Chechnya on December 17, 1996. Further, our President and CEO Conrad Sauvé read a list of names of those in the Movement who had lost their lives in 2018 alone. We also used this opportunity to officially name a boardroom in our new office after Nancy Malloy.

Apart from this ceremony, throughout the year the CRC engages in IHL promotion and education activities across the country, engaging in dialogue with authorities including the Canadian Armed Forces, training teachers, holding academic conferences on IHL topics and engaging Canadians broadly on IHL to raise awareness and generate action around issues faced by affected communities and humanitarian workers in the field.
