Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement

Actions taken:

The German Red Cross has continued its work on a contemporary interpretation and application of the Movement’s Fundamental Principles in its domestic and international activities (see also SP320002 “Dissemination of Fundamental Principles”).

As regards the promotion of mutual respect, non-violence and social inclusion through the provision of volunteering opportunities and educational activities fostering these principles, it has, among other things, published a manual on “The Implementation of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement’s Fundamental Principles in German Red Cross child day-care centres” (http://drk-wohlfahrt.de/uploads/tx_ffpublication/161219-DRK-Grundsaetze-in-Kitas-Web.pdf) in December 2016. Moreover, in 2013 the German Red Cross Headquarters initiated a five-year project, co-financed by the “Aktion Mensch Foundation” (Social Lottery), the European Social Fund Program rückenwind+ and the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, which  aimed to increase the number of GerRC employees and volunteers with disabilities and to improve the German Red Cross’ accessibility by eradicating possible physical and non-visible barriers (“Project Inclusion (P-Ink): Sensitization and Qualification to Develop and Support Inclusive Projects”), which included training on the Fundamental Principles.
