End report Belgium and Belgian Red Cross – Tracing/RFL

Actions taken:

In 2017, the Belgian Red Cross took the initiative to discuss its RFL-work (Tracing) with several relevant departments of the Belgian authorities, such as : the Immigration office, Justice and the office of Foreign Affairs. This constitued an opportunity to improve the understanding of the mandate, the operational approach (NIIHA) and the RFL activities of the National Society. A contact is established, which offers the opening and willingness to work together on common files, whenever needed.

This resulted in :

  • Bilateral consultations between the Belgian Red Cross and the Foreign Affairs Office in 2018 and 2019
  • The negotiation of a cooperation agreement between the Belgian Red Cross and the Immigration Office (in progress) ;
  • The continued participation of the Belgian Red Cross, Restoring Family Links-unit in the training for new legal guardians for UMs.
