Disaster Risk Reduction in Australia

A) Objectifs de l’engagement:

For the years 2019 – 2023, the Australian Government and Australian Red Cross hereby pledge:

 

– To work to improve public awareness of, engagement on, and preparedness for climate and disaster risks and impacts, particularly for those who may be more at risk as a result of their circumstances, including but not limited to children, women, people with a disability, refugees and asylum seekers, remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. (Priority 1, NDRRF)

 

– To empower communities, individuals and small businesses to make informed and sustainable investments in preparedness and disaster risk reduction. (Priority 3, NDRRF)

 

– To develop disaster risk reduction investment tools to provide practical guidance on investment mechanisms, particularly those that focus on the benefit costs ratios relating to social resilience building initiatives. (Priority 3, NDRRF)

 

– Continuing to develop a research agenda on disaster risk reduction, particularly one that focuses on improved understanding of the benefits of investing in social resilience activities to achieve the resilience dividend.

B) Plan d’action

Implement the National Disaster Risk Reduction Framework, as guided by the National Action Plan, by:

 

– Work with the Australian Government over the 5 years of the Framework to progress and update the National Action Plans.

 

– Where possible, conduct community level awareness campaigns to improve levels of disaster preparedness in targeted areas of highest hazard risk and social vulnerability.

 

– Identify and pursue opportunities to improve investment in disaster risk reduction and mitigation.

 

– Work with the Australian Government to ensure humanitarian impacts are considered in risk reduction decisions and activities.

 

– Work to implement a Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Framework; that includes metrics and methods to gather data.

– Indicators to be developed through the implementation of the MEL Framework of the National Action Plan.
