    Dissemination of International Humanitarian Law is one of the strategic directions for Belarus Red Cross for 2022-2025.

    The National Society’s activities in this direction can be divided into the following:

    cooperation with state organizations in order to disseminate humanitarian values and inform about the activities of the Belarus Red Cross;

    cooperation with educational institutions of the Republic of Belarus;

    training of staff and volunteers, advanced training of trainers on dissemination of IHL and activities of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement;

    increasing the recognition of the Red Cross, promoting the image of the Belarus Red Cross, cooperation with mass media representatives and prevention of illegitimate use of the Red Cross emblem.

    It should be noted:

    Active participation of the National Society in the work of the European Legal Support Group (ELSG);

    Participation in working meetings with the ICRC regional delegation in Minsk, as well as with IHL colleagues from other countries to share best practices and present current activities;

    Joint work with the ICRC in a number of areas, including cash assistance and RFL issues;

    Participation in processes to improve humanitarian legal norms and mechanisms for their implementation;

    Cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on dissemination of IHL norms and participation in international meetings and seminars;

    Interaction with the Ministry of Internal Affairs – Belarus Red Cross constantly holds lectures on the topic “International Humanitarian Law” of the academic discipline “Public International Law” for the students of the educational institution “Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus” providing the students with knowledge about the basics of IHL, the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement.

    Every year an international conference on IHL is held with the participation of students from the Republic of Belarus and Russian Federation.

    For example, with the support of local authorities, together with educational institutions, we hold an annual international conference on IHL, where students present their work on various topics that concern humanity today in the context of compliance with the norms of international humanitarian law.

    The main positive effect is related to the increased knowledge of IHL among citizens, students and professionals, which strengthens the role of IHL in society and raises awareness of IHL issues.
