Within the framework of its “Health Care in Danger” campaign to address the issue of violence against healthcare in Italy, which is part of the broader RCRC initiative, in the reference period the Italian RC has carried out a number of activities and trainings with a view of keeping a high focus on the phenomenon of the violence against healthcare personnel and increasing the preparedness of Italian RC staff and volunteers when confronted with such violence:

  • Since 2019, publication of 5 annual reports on the data of the Observatory on the violence against Italian RC staff and volunteers providing healthcare service, which was established in 2018 to allow Italian RC staff and volunteers to report instances of violence, aggression, threats and/or damage to healthcare vehicles and facilities. The annual report identifies the main trends and situations in which such incidents occur while outlining the mitigation and risk reduction measures undertaken, with a view to consolidating and disseminating good practices and lessons learned. From its establishment in 2018 until December 2023, the Italian RC Observatory received a total n. of 326 reports (on incidents of violence/aggression). The publication of the annual reports has often been followed by the organization of launch events and related public communication activities
  • In the reference period from 2019 to May 2024, the Italian RC has trained the following numbers of volunteers on the campaign “Health Care in Danger”:
    • n° 1498 Volunteers who participated in the basic information course on “Health Care in Danger: healthcare personnel in danger” – HCiD
    • n° 65 Volunteers who participated in the specialization course in Health Care in Danger for DIU Instructors – ASHCID2
  • In the reference period from 2019 to May 2024, the Italian RC has trained the following numbers of volunteers on the protection of the emblem:
    • n° 758 Volunteers who participated in the basic information course on protection of the Emblem – EMB
    • n° 166 Volunteers who participated in the specialization course in Protection of the Emblem for DIU Instructors – ASTE
