Since 2019, Swedish Red Cross has taken several actions to fulfill the comittments in this pledge. Actions include:
– Initiating a close cooperation with the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs to work for a better gender balance, and representation of women in leadership positions in the RCRC Movement (among other things), to ensure the implementation of the Women and Leadership Resolution from the IC in 2019, and the commitments in this pledge.
– Supporting the development of the Global Network for Women leaders in the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement (GLOW Red), by hosting the network’s secretariat administration, and by contributing human and financial resources to the secretariat, from 2018-2024. Furthermore, Swedish Red Cross has supported the network’s activities, which are aimed at increasing the number of women leaders from diverse backgrounds in leadership positions and widening the pool of future women leaders.
– GLOW Red has, with the support from Swedish Red Cross, initiated two research projects about women’s leadership in the Humanitarian sector: How Diverse Leadership Shaped Responses to COVID-19 Within the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement – Humanitarian Advisory Group, and Strategies that support women leaders in aid organisations
– For our international programs, SRC has developed a tool to ensure quality programming and systematic mainstreaming of PGI minimum standards, including the collection and analysis of sex, age, and disability disaggregated data (SADDD).
– The adoption of a new Swedish Red Cross strategy for 2024-2030, where one of the six focus areas is diversity and inclusion. A sub-strategy has been developed which include raising awareness around discrimination and building competence on diversity and inclusion across all levels of the organization. Trainings and workshops with management and governance teams were rolled-out in the end of 2023 and currently (in 2024) staff and volunteers are going through similar workshops.
