The contemporary significance, interpretation and application of the Movement’s Fundamental Principles have been a regular topic in German Red Cross events and presentations. They have been addressed, for example, in the periodic meetings of GerRC dissemination officers, workshops of the German Red Cross Youth (JRK), trainings for law students and young lawyers as well as for German Red Cross staff members, in particular of child day-care facilities and reception centres.
The German Red Cross has promoted its dissemination materials through various channels, i.e. in person, on its website (offering video, audio, podcast and webinar-formats) and by use of its “IHL Dissemination Newsletter” launched in December 2016 (https://www.drk.de/das-drk/ziele-aufgaben-und-selbstverstaendnis/ueberblick/newsletter-verbreitungsarbeit). Its publication on the German Red Cross’ Application of the Fundamental Principles is now in its 3rd edition. The pictograms for the Fundamental Principles created in connection with an internal dissemination competition are now regularly used for GerRC publications and have been made available for use by other Movement components. A newly released Commentary on the German Red Cross Act (2019) includes a separate chapter on the Fundamental Principles and has been widely promoted.
In order to exchange best practices with other components and to actively contribute to possible further common initiatives, the German Red Cross has, in addition to its regular bilateral exchange with other Movement components, joined a Movement Dissemination Working Group initiated in June 2016 and has actively contributed to the drafting of relevant policy papers, such as the “Background Note and Guidance for National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies on ‘Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism’” as a member of the P/CVE-Working Group in 2017.
