Sexual and gender-based violence during times of armed conflict or in the aftermath of disasters and other emergencies

Acciones tomadas:

In Denmark, Danish Red Cross (DRC provides psychosocial support and safe referrals to survivors of SGBV in DRC health clinics for undocumented migrants and in DRC operated asylum centres. Through its strategic partnership with the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, DRC is also working with the Ministry and other Danish CSOs to draw attention to the sexual and reproductive health and rights in humanitarian crises, implications and solutions. E.g. collaboration with the International Planned Parenthood Federation on an international conference held in the Danish Parliament with a key note speech delivered by the DRC Secretary General, and other events.

DRC contributes to the Movement SGBV Network (with ICRC, IFRC and other National Societies) aimed to strengthen the Movement’s joined efforts on addressing SGBV in conflict and natural disasters. DRC has supported the development of IFRC’s psychosocial reference centre’s teaching material on SGBV and education activities, and in 2018 held a training in Copenhagen for DRC and other National Society staff on PSS for survivors of SGBV. DRC has also contributed to the development of a SGBV training module for humanitarian staff, and trained ERU delegates and national society staff. DRC has also contributed to an IFRC 2016-2017 study on the inclusion of SGBV in national disaster laws with a focus on Zimbabwe.

SGBV is integrated into DRC international supported programmes on sexual and reproductive health and rights, as well as in various learning materials, e.g. used in youth and migration programmes.

To support the Movement’s broader work with protection, gender and inclusion (PGI), and the adherence to the minimum standards, DRC has contributed to the IFRC Global Tool Kit on PGI; trained Movement staff on PGI in Addis Ababa and Copenhagen; developed and tested a pocket guide on safe referrals for SGBV survivors; and supported the FACT Mission in Mozambique with a PGI Delegate functioning as PSEA Focal Point. It is one of the first operations where SOP and a task force on PSEA has been established in the immediate response. Besides coordinating safe referral, the PGI Delegate trained volunteers and briefed staff on PSEA.
