Report on pledge – Social cohesion

Acciones tomadas:

Republic of Poland and its National Red Cross Society (PRC) pledge to promote understanding, non-violence and respect for cultural, linguistic and religious diversity in the Polish community, including through providing educational activities which foster humanitarian values and, where possible, building partnerships to promote dialogue and inclusion.

Action plan:

implementation of educational programs shaping proper social attitudes among children, youth, adults and seniors

– participation of PRC youth in trainings on social cohesion

– participation of PRC in partnership and thematic networks on social cohesion

Indicators for measuring progress:

number of people covered by educational programs

– educational materials (textbooks, online tabs, applications, etc.)

– the number of trainings and meetings regarding social cohesion

– support for national advocacy in the area of social cohesion

Implementation:

The Polish Red Cross has implemented a range of measures benefitting marginalised or socially excluded persons, including the elderly, the diseased, the disabled, the unemployed, migrants, and refugees. The most important actions are highlighted below:

– Day-to-day home care provided by more than 5,000 home carers visiting nearly 16,000 beneficiaries with various diseases.

– Food distribution programme carried out as part of the Fund for European Aid to the Most Deprived (FEAD) and targeting 113,000 people, 10% of whom are elderly persons.

– Food parcels for 6,500 people who lost their jobs in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic.

– School starter kits for 150,000 children from Ukraine and Poland.

– Family reuniting programme for people separated from each other due to a natural disaster, catastrophe, or armed conflict, with 150 Ukraine-crisis-related cases currently pending.

– About 9,000 tonnes of food and hygiene packages for migrants.

– Financial support in cash for more than 21,000 families and in vouchers for 85,000 families of migrants from Ukraine.

– Telephone helpline for migrants benefitting from aid in Poland, with more than 32,000 calls received to date.

– Inclusion programmes, including in the form of summer holidays for children, language courses, vocational trainings, social engagement schemes for the elderly.

– Assistance to Roma families.
