Contributing to building an inclusive and resilient society (communities) in diverse and complex changing contexts in Korea and beyond, leading the dissemination of humanitarian value in Korea

A) Objetivos de la promesa

Recalling the Movement’s commitments to the SDG, the Sendai Framework with the One Billion Coalition for Resilience, KNRC will continuously contribute to building safe and resilient communities through active cooperation and engagement at all levels. In line with Korean government’s commitment to the global agendas, KNRC as auxiliary body to the authority will identify areas to work in terms of mitigating risks of climate change and building resilience through its programs and activities.

 

As discussed during the 33rd International Conference, since we are faced with complex humanitarian challenges, the vulnerability is also shifting, calling for new relevant themes of humanitarian action. In line with this agenda, KNRC will seek ways to integrate diversity such as migration, gender, into our development and implementation of programmes, to contribute to more inclusive and resilient communities.

 

In addition, to promote dignified lives of the marginalized people including the migrants and refugees, KNRC will explore close engagement in disseminating the humanitarian values through the development of education programmes so that KNRC can move forward integrated approach and participation.

B) Plan de acción

To fulfill this pledge, KNRC aims to undertake the following actions before the 34th International Conference in 2023.

 

  • Introduce and disseminate first aid education in accordance with standard of the Federation, to ensure public confidence domestically and also induce active discussion and internal agreement to streamline the DRR and resilience in domestic policy and programming in particular.
  • Invest to build stronger capacity of APDRC exploring and utilizing optimal expertise and support from external resources, in view of linking up with needs nationally and regionally.
  • Sensitize and educate the gender-based thinking and approach in working at communities as well as within the NS and seek an opportunity to develop a practical programme or education of KNRC can pursue as needed.
  • Develop various education programmes to disseminate humanitarian values to stakeholders and the general public, particularly youth.

C) Indicadores para medir los avances:

  • Adopted global FA education course certified by the Federation and included the DRR and resilience concept in KNRC DM policy and PoA.
  • Ensured more sustainable support to the APDRC so that it is able to provide evidence-based data on performance and achievements of cooperation and partnership.
  • Had internal discussion and agreement presenting the reason why the Red Cross promotes the gender-based approach and what it implies in our humanitarian work and adopted it as important cross cutting issues in humanitarian field.
  • Developed various humanitarian education programmes including IHL with enriched contents and consulted with relevant stakeholders to efficiently disseminate them.

D) Recursos requeridos:

There will be resource implications associated with the proposed implementation of the pledge. These may include collective cooperation between KNRC and partners of KNRC, including the Federation, government, private sector, academic sector, and other NGOs, etc.
