Georgia pledges to continue strengthening its efforts to disseminate internationalhumanitarian law among all stakeholders.
One of the main aims of every IHL National Action Planis to disseminate the knowledge of IHL among population. For this reason, each year the IHL Commission with the assistance of the ICRC organizes national IHL competitions for students.
The dissemination of the knowledge of IHL is also undertaken indifferent spheres. For instance, in 2014 and 2015, the Ministry of Defence of Georgia and the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport of Georgia organized IHL teaching events/training sessions for the media representatives and other professionals working in the field. During the trainings, instructions were given concerning security measures in professional missions in armed conflicts and rights and obligations of media reporters. In 2017, the Ministry of Defence of Georgia provided media representatives with a course on national defence. On June 16, 2018 the Ministry of Defence offered a course on media teaching for those journalists that are interested in military, defence and security issues.
IHL is also disseminated in the justice system of the country. In 2017, the High School of Justice with the assistance of the Council of Europe adopted a teaching module on IHL for Judges. The module has been created by local and the Council of Europe’s experts. The already trained Georgian judges gave a pilot training for 13 other judges in 2017.
Notably, in 2018, international humanitarian law was disseminated among teachers within the framework of the training module “Creating a Safe Learning Environment at School for the Integration of Internationally Protected students into the School Community”. The training module was attended by 180 teachers.
