The work carried out by CADIH nationally includes the organization of courses and workshops aimed at raising awareness about IHL issues and the monitoring of IHL dissemination and teaching activities.
It addresses issues that it considers important in light of the national and international situation and developments. It takes into account areas where action is required, pursues ongoing activities and establishes and maintains contacts, in constant consultation with the senior officials of its member institutions.
CADIH also oversees programmes for the integration of IHL into the doctrine, training and operations of the armed forces, whose officer training centres include IHL in their curriculum.
IHL is taught at Udelar, in the armed forces, at the Air Force Command and General Staff College and the Naval War College and in university degree courses including law, notarial practice and international relations. Specific IHL training is also provided for officers in the field on weapons, the protection of health care and the protection of victims to ensure that they are well prepared to perform their duties, making Uruguayan officers an example to be followed.
