Towards more environmentally sustainable events
For decades, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement has considered and addressed evolving climate- and environment-related risks. Strengthening environmental sustainability is therefore not a new commitment – it is a continuation of our shared responsibility to reduce our footprint, lead by example and act with integrity toward the communities we serve.
Developed by the ICRC/IFRC Joint Organizing Committee of the International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent and the Council of Delegates of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, the Guidance for more environmentally sustainable events builds on this long-standing commitment. It offers practical steps, proven approaches and tools adapted to the diverse contexts of the Movement.
Every Statutory Meeting, conference or gathering – whether in person, hybrid or online – is an opportunity to reduce environmental impact while reinforcing our humanitarian values. Sustainable choices are not symbolic; they are measurable and meaningful and strengthen the Movement.
