A) Objectives of the pledge:
The Government and National Society of New Zealand Red Cross jointly pledge to improve awareness and inclusion of persons with disabilities in preparedness for, and response to, humanitarian crises, recognising the particular vulnerabilities they face and the importance of their engagement in identifying and prioritising needs and actions.
B) Action plan:
- New Zealand Red Cross will work with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to promote the needs of persons with disabilities, in all their diversity in organisational policies and operational practices in Aotearoa New Zealand.
- New Zealand Red Cross and the New Zealand Government will work closely with Pacific regional and local organisations to advocate for inclusion of the rights and needs of persons with disabilities in the policies and the planning, delivery and monitoring of humanitarian assistance activities.
C) Indicators for measuring progress:
- Number of Pacific organisations with disability inclusion reflected in their policies and practice
- Number of New Zealand organisations (particularly those with a specific role in emergency management) with disability inclusion reflected in their policies and practice
