Considering Different Impacts on Diverse Women, Men, Girls and Boys when Applying and Implementing IHL

A) Objectives of the pledge:

Recalling the need to apply international humanitarian law, as applicable, without any adverse distinction,

Observing that diverse women, men, girls and boys can be affected by armed conflict in different ways, and that this influences their needs, capacities and perspectives,

B) Action plan:

The International Committee of the Red Cross pledges to convene a meeting of international experts, and on this basis prepare a report, to identify ways in which the application and implementation of specific IHL obligations can have different impacts on diverse women, men, boys and girls, and consider corresponding practical implications for the application and implementation of IHL. The meeting will be a small-scale discussion among experts (for example, between 10-30 experts from military, governments, and/or academia).

C) Indicators for measuring progress:

       Meeting of international experts to identify different impacts in the application of IHL obligations on diverse women, men, girls and boys

       Publication of expert meeting report

D) Resource implications:

Resources required to deliver above-listed indicators, to be determined.
