Actions Taken:

  • In November 2021, Irish Red Cross officially signed up to the Climate and Environment Charter.
  • Domestically, two staff members, with climate action background, have been tasked with the responsibility for development and funding for a climate action plan to include; measuring the carbon footprint, developing a greening plan of action, identifying targets for registering on the climate charter, generally building capacity, awareness and understanding within the national society, and identifying national actors for scaling up community based climate action projects.
  • To support the actions of the two staff members, a working group has been developed at the national level. Members of the working group include staff from the different departments in headquarters, youth volunteers, and long-established influential volunteers from within Irish Red Cross.
  • Internationally, Irish Red Cross is supporting its partner National Society in Nepal to introduce climate smart programming across its supported interventions.
