Report on pledge – Protecting humanitarian and medical personnel

Actions taken:

The NS has made steps to raise awareness in relation to the topics of the protection of the medical and humanitarian personnel by organising trainings and workshops highlighting on the legal regime for the protection. Notably, first steps were taken towards the implementation of the SAF in the Bulgarian Red Cross by the organisation of meetings with the ICRC Belgarde delegation.

Further, within the framework of civil-military cooperation, meetings were held with civil-military referents, where the representatives of the BRC briefed them on key activities related to disaster management and humanitarian assistance, the situation in the aftermath of COVID-19, exercises in the field of mountain rescue, cooperation with the government and institutions, the Movement, issues related to IHL, the emblem, etc.

Lastly, The BRC took part in seminars and working groups as part of the War in Cities MRG Meetings in 2023, where some of the topics were also devoted to the protection of humanitarian and medical personnel.
The organization also participated in other campaigns dedicated to the protection of these individuals, including the campaign #NotATarget and #HealthCareInDanger.
