Report on pledge: Assistance and Protection to Migrants

Actions taken:

The CRC strategic aim and vision is for asylum seekers, refugees and migrants to live in dignity and in safe environment that enables them to recover from hardship and to rebuild their lives. Main CRC activities with refugees and migrants include: psychosocial support and social services to asylum seekers in the reception centres, support to integration and social inclusion of refugees, assistance to vulnerable migrants in detention and transit centres including migrants intercepted at borders; prevention of human trafficking and assistance to victims.

Our work in these areas is based on long-term agreements with MOI and UNHCR. Besides long-term agreements, there have been and are many short term agreements financed through the EU funding.

The CRC’s hard work has been recognized, since we are the only organization with access to all migrants, irrelevant to their status.

In reception centers, there are two in Croatia; CRC provides organization of daily life, PSS and social activities, such as hygiene distribution, language courses, creative workshops, technical workshop, field trips, sports activities, educations and activities involving local community and RFL. Within reception centre, the CRC has PSS team responsible for screening and initial needs assessment. Upon identified needs, beneficiaries are referred to appropriate services and organizations. Also, PSS team in reception center organizes coordination working meetings for all stakeholders involved with PSS in reception center, safe spaces for children and women and awareness raising educations for beneficiaries.

Integration and social inclusion of refugees focuses mainly on direct assistance to refugees, access to rights and services and referral to other relevant institutions and organizations. In CRC Integration House, special emphasis is given to medical assistance, access to labor market, education and social welfare. In recent years, the CRC implemented projects aimed at support to resettled and relocated refugees.

The CRC has experience in providing protection services to vulnerable groups of migrants such as separated unaccompanied children, persons at risk of SGBV and human trafficking.

The CRC has implemented public awareness and educational activities with aim to inform the public on the refugee and migration issues: marking the World Refuge Day, exhibitions, InterCool Festival, lectures and intercultural workshops in schools, developing school-based programme on migration, antidiscrimination, promoting diversity and human values. The CRC has implemented educational and public awareness activities targeting youth aimed at prevention of human trafficking, including the activities in the reception and transit centres for asylum seekers.

During the recent years, the CRC has developed its humanitarian diplomacy and advocacy activities with the authorities, especially during the refugee crisis when the NS had access to all migrants in need and was appointed as coordinator for all the organizations working in transit camp.
