Joint pledge on dissemination of International Humanitarian Law by the Danish Red Cross and the Government of Denmark

Actions taken:

Since 2015, the task of publishing a revised and updated edition of the Danish publication of treaties on International Humanitarian Law (IHL) has been discussed several times in the Danish National Committee on IHL (“Committee of the Danish Government on the Red Cross”). The Committee set up an ‘Editorial Group’ to work on a revised and updated edition of the Danish publication of treaties on IHL. While the original purpose was to extend the collection of texts, during the ongoing work on the English translation of the 2016 Danish Military Manual (MM), it became apparent that there are translation inconsistencies in relevant Danish language texts. This realisation greatly expanded the scope of the exercise, making it much more resource intensive. It also became clear that most end users of IHL material in Denmark use original English language versions. Currently, the Committee is considering how to proceed in an efficient and value-added manner. Ideas include taking a step-by-step approach. The work on this project is still ongoing, and therefore not ready for publication ahead of the 2019 IC.
