Commitment to prevent and respond to sexual exploitation and abuse and sexual harrassment (SEAH) in humanitarian action

Actions taken:

The Italian Red Cross is actively working on the development of more structured policies to address and prevent Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Harassment (SEAH), aiming to enhance organizational integrity and provide a safe and respectful environment for all staff and beneficiaries. These efforts include comprehensive training programs, strict reporting mechanisms, and collaboration with international partners to implement best practices and ensure accountability. CRI has indeed established a management system for handling reports, including those submitted anonymously, and has adopted a Code of Conduct for the Prevention and Combat of Sexual Harassment. This system ensures the protection and confidentiality of individuals reporting any misconduct within the organization.

All these mechanisms are under strict monitoring to ensure they are effective and align also with the requirements set by institutional donors. This alignment includes adhering to stringent standards for SEAH prevention and response, which emphasize the necessity of creating safe channels for reporting incidents, conducting thorough and confidential investigations, and taking appropriate actions against perpetrators. By integrating these comprehensive measures, the Italian Red Cross ensures a robust framework for preventing and addressing SEAH, maintaining the trust and safety of all involved in its operations.

Given the complexity and sensitivity of this issue, we acknowledge that there is still much work to be done. We are committed to following relevant indicators in the pledge and related benchmarks to continuously improve our policies and practices. Our dedication to this cause is unwavering, and we will persist in our efforts to create a safe and respectful environment for all, ensuring that we uphold the highest standards of integrity and accountability.
