Austria supports the fight against sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) in conflicts as part of its overall commitment to women’s rights and gender equality and the protection of civilians in armed conflict. Furthermore, there are measures in place focussing on crime-prevention, capacity building and empowerment of women with a migratory background in Austria.
– Briefly describe the specific activities that your government has so far undertaken to implement Resolution 3
Protection of Civilians in 2012 (UN certified since 2014, re-certified in 2018 as “Comprehensive Course on the Protection of Civilians”). This course builds capacity for senior decision-makers of armed forces, police as well as civilian experts working at the operational level with or in the context of international peace missions and enables them to address challenges in protecting civilian populations in conflict or post-conflict contexts. The course is organized two times per year and the week-long training programme includes a one-hour session on the issue of “Conflict-Related Sexual and Gender-Based violence”.
