A) Objectives of the pledge:
The objective of this pledge is to contribute to the long-term promotion of a culture of respect for human dignity, humanitarian values, and the rules of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) in Georgia. This will be achieved by raising awareness and building knowledge of IHL among diverse segments of society, including children, youth, and adults. Through sustained and inclusive educational and outreach efforts, the pledge aims to enhance public understanding of the principles that govern armed conflict and the protection of those affected by it. Special attention will be given to embedding humanitarian values in education, promoting civic responsibility, and encouraging the dissemination of IHL principles within both formal institutions and informal community settings.
B) Action plan:
- Identify and select relevant target groups, including university students, community members, and other interested individuals;
- Develop and adapt educational materials and study programs tailored to each target group, focusing on IHL and related humanitarian principles;
- Organize and implement trainings, informational sessions, national moot court competitions, awareness campaigns, and other outreach initiatives aimed at increasing understanding of IHL and fostering a culture of respect for humanitarian values.
C) Indicators for measuring progress:
- Number of awareness-raising and educational activities conducted annually;
- Number of individuals trained or reached through formal and non-formal educational initiatives promoting IHL and humanitarian values.
D) Resource implications:
The implementation of the pledge will require the allocation of appropriate financial, human, and technical resources, including:
- Budgetary support from national institutions;
- Engagement of qualified trainers, educators, and administrative personnel;
- Use of digital and physical infrastructure to support outreach and educational activities.
