Promotion and strengthening of the work of the National Committee on International Humanitarian Law in Bulgaria

Actions taken:

The National Committee on International Humanitarian Law (NC/IHL) in Bulgaria adopted the first report “Review and Assessment of the Compliance of Bulgarian Legislation and National Measures for the Implementation of International Humanitarian Law”.

This first report provides a comprehensive overview of the compliance of Bulgarian legislation with international commitments in the field of international humanitarian law and is a good basis for future work in this area.

The report is divided into separate thematic areas such as: protection of humanitarian and health personnel, provision of medical care in emergencies, including natural disasters, regulated use of methods and means of conflict, protection of cultural property, protection of the environment, etc.

Together with the Bulgarian Red Cross, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria prepared a report and a summary to it, dedicated to the compliance of Bulgarian legislation and national measures for the implementation of international humanitarian law, providing the Bulgarian general public with the possibility to enter the specific matter of humanitarian affairs in a more friendly and accessible manner.
