Strengthening the capacity of health care providers to prevent and to respond safely to violence while on duty

A) Objectives of the pledge:

Considering Resolutions 5 of the 31st, and Resolution 4 of the 32nd International Conference of the Red Cross and the Red Crescent, the signatories of this pledge aim to work towards increased preparedness by health care providers to prevent, mitigate and cope with the impact of violence.

B) Action plan:

  • Establish (or activate already existing) training and exchange mechanisms to improve staff, facilities and vehicles preparedness when they are confronted with violence
  • Train health care personnel on the correct use of the emblems and other appropriate identifications
  • Train health care personnel on violence management, facilities security and institutional procedures.

C) Indicators for measuring progress:

  • Number of health care personnel trained in safety and security management
  • Number of health care personnel trained in stress management
  • Number of health care personnel trained on rights and responsibilities of health care personnel
  • Number of health care personnel trained on the correct use of the emblems and other appropriate identification

D) Resource implications:
