Health Care in Danger – Increase Respect for the Emblems

A) Objectives of the pledge:

The Government of the Republic of South Africa and the South African Red Cross Society hereby pledges, for the period 2016-2019 to promote the recognition and protection of the use in South Africa of the emblems of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, in accordance with international and domestic law.

B) Action plan:

Actions/Indicators:
1.Create awareness to ensure better understanding of the purpose and appropriate use associated with the emblems of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement;
2.Take appropriate measures to enforce compliance with the law protecting the emblems, including prosecution where applicable;
3.Strengthen the monitoring of legal compliance with measures protecting the emblems through tracking and mapping of misuse and enforcement;
4.Reinforce reporting mechanisms on the misuse of the emblems; and
5.Share good practice to prevent and address the misuse of the emblems;
