Strengthening legal frameworks for disaster risk reduction and disaster management

A) Objectives of the pledge:

The Government of the Republic of South Africa hereby pledges, for the period 2016 – 2019:
1. To promote an integrated multi-sectoral and multidisciplinary approach to disaster risk reduction and disaster management across all spheres of government;
2. To facilitate efforts to realise the four priorities of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030.
3. To co-operate in ensuring effective implementation of domestic laws and policies relevant to disaster risk reduction and disaster management.

B) Action plan:

1. Workshops conducted with relevant stakeholders to discuss the implementation of legislation related to disaster risk reduction and disaster management ;
2. New regulations drafted on the declaration of disasters; and
3. New legislation adopted on disaster management.
