Strengthening Compliance with IHL – Annual Regional Seminar

A) Objectives of the pledge:

The Government of the Republic of South Africa, for the years 2016 – 2019, commit to ensuring greater respect for International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and to work towards the implementation, promotion and strengthening of compliance with International Humanitarian Law (IHL) within the country and the region.

B) Action plan:

Action Plan/ Indicators:
1. Continue the co-hosting of the Annual Regional IHL Seminar with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in South Africa for countries in Southern African including Indian Ocean Island States in the region;

2. Present country reports at the Annual Regional IHL Seminar outlining progress and challenges in the domestic implementation, promotion and strengthening of compliance with IHL;

3. Review progress at the Annual Regional IHL Seminar on the implementation of the outcomes relating to the 32nd International Conference of 2015.
