Dissemination of the Fundamental Principles

A) Objectives of the pledge:

The German Red Cross will actively contribute to the dissemination of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement’s Fundamental Principles. It will do so on its own initiative and as the auxiliary to the public authorities in the humanitarian field. In line with its strategic dissemination framework (e.g. the dissemination position paper adopted by the German Red Cross’ Presidential Board in 2011), the German Red Cross will raise awareness within internal and external target audiences about the contemporary significance, interpretation and application of the Movement’s Fundamental Principles, especially in its own domestic and international activities.

B) Action plan:

Proposed evaluation criteria (in 2019):

    • The signatory will have organised different events and presentations on the contemporary significance, interpretation and application of the Movement’s Fundamental Principles. It will have made use of various periodic and ad hoc meetings to include the issue on the meetings’ agenda.

    • To further strengthen dissemination capacities, the signatory will have promoted its dissemination materials on the Movement’s Fundamental Principles. These include most importantly:
      – a publication on the German Red Cross’ application of the Movement’s Fundamental Principles (2015)
an exhibition on the Movement’s Fundamental Principles created in collaboration with the Association of German Red Cross Museums (2015)
pictograms for the Movement’s Fundamental Principles created in connection with an internal dissemination competition (2015)

    • The signatory will have exchanged best practices for the dissemination of the Movement’s Fundamental Principles with other components of the Movement and will have actively contributed to possible further common initiatives.
